We have many new subscribers this week.  It was great meeting all of you at the YMCA Healthy Kids Day event last Saturday.

I thought this would be a good time to give you a quick tour of Macaroni Kid and tell you a little about the newsletter.  My goal is to make Macaroni Kid a fabulous resource for Louisville families.  It should be easy to get out with your kids.  With my help it is!

May Is SHREK Month!


An entirely new musical, SHREK THE MUSICAL is based on the story and characters from William Steig’s book Shrek!, as well as the DreamWorks Animation film Shrek, the first chapter of the Shrek movie series.

Here’s how the contests will work; I’ll announce two ways to win in this week’s newsletter.  The third and fourth giveaways will begin in the May 12th and May 19th newsletters.  All four contests will close at 9:00am on May 25th and winners will be announced in the May 26th edition.  You must be a subscriber to win and you are only eligible to win one set of 4 tickets.  Subscribe here if you haven’t already.

Shrek Trivia: Check the Louisville East Macaroni Kid Facebook page from now until May 25th for Shrek trivia.  You’ll get one contest entry for each trivia question you answer and 2 entries if you answer correctly.  You must use the link included with the question to get credit for your answers.  There will be nine trivia questions, check the Facebook page frequently so you don’t miss one.

The Louisville Science Center is celebrating National Lab Day with science, technology, engineering and math experimentations, microscope observations and career professionals.  Test your skills at completing a typically simple task using unique and multi-step systems with the Rube Goldberg Challenge, get an up close look at the workings of lab equipment and technique used in microbiology labs and sharpen your microscope skills! Cinco de Mayo Crafts


Mexican Bracelets

 

Materials Needed:

Empty toilet paper rolls

Black, silver, or gold paint (this will be the "metal" of your bracelet)

Paint brush or sponge

Scissors

Glue

Dried beans in lots of colors (we bought the Bean Soup mix)

Take your toilet paper roll and cut it lengthwise. Then cut it in thirds. This will make three cuff bracelets.

 

Now you can paint the bracelet. You can make it silver, gold, or black. We did ours in black.

Get Outside!

With 18 locations surrounding Louisville, you can always find something happening at the LFPL!  Weekly reoccuring library activities are listed here.  One time only activites will appear on the newsletter and calendar.  Since this is Louisville East Macaroni Kid, I've limited my search to include the eight libraries below.  For a complete list of all library activities, view the LFPL website.  Residents of Oldham county can apply for a library card at the LFPL if you or your spouse works in Jefferson County.
