Our Farm Day

June 28, 2015
My kiddos and I went and picked blueberries at EarthWave Farm and went and had lunch and played at Gallrein Farms last week and had a wonderful time. Earthwave Farm is a little place about 5 minutes from Gallrein. They have U-pick, naturally grown blueberries. They are chemical free, never sprayed. You will need to bring your own containers, blueberries are $3 a pound, cash only.
They are only going to be open another week or two, but when we were there there was a ton of fruit! We easily picked 7 pounds in a short amount of time. They are really good, my son can't get enough. Check out their Facebook page, they keep updates on their hours and u-pick times there.

Since we were so close to Gallrein, and since my daughter wanted to see and feed the animals, we headed there afterwards for lunch. Gallrein has a great little cafe with lots of options. I got 3 kids meals, which consisted of a sandwich of their choice, chips or fruit, and a drink for about $12. They also gave us donuts they had made that morning for free. I could have bought a dozen of the doughnuts, they were awesome!
There is so much to do at Gallrein. We usually go and pick strawberries, but they are done for the season so we fed their animals, they have a brand new petting zoo area that is very nice. There is a camel, pig, rabbits, miniature horses, goats, and ducks to feed. Bring quarters to buy food from the machines they have there. They also a pond where you can feed the fish. They sell plants and flowers and have huge greenhouses to explore. Their farmers market will start up in July and they are planning a corn festival July 18th that we plan on going to too!
It was a great day to be out in the country in Shelby County. EarthWave Farm is located at 265 Moody Pike and Gallrein is located at 1029 Vigo Rd, both in Shelbyville KY, 40065
