I am constantly hearing people wondering where to go for a quick, close family getaway. And I am always on the lookout too. I must say I was pleasantly surprised with Bowling Green, Kentucky. I and about 40 of my Macaroni Kid sisters went for a 4 day trip last week and we had such an enjoyable time. I can not wait to go back with my family. There was something fun for everyone! Here are 10 (or more) of the best things to check out in Bowling Green.

1. The National Corvette Museum and GM Corvette Assembly Plant - My son is in love with cars and that is what the National Corvette Museum is all about. They have a great history about the Corvette and they have over 70 cars on display. They have an exhibit about the sinkhole and you could also see the cars that were pulled out. We went on a one hour factory tour at the GM Bowling Green Corvette Assembly Plant to watch them being built. You do have to be at least 10 years old to do the tour. We got to see the car go from being just a frame to a finished product and watched it drive off the line!

2.  Historic Railpark & Train Museum - They have the original train station turned into a two-story, interactive museum and a line of vintage train cars you can walk through and tour. Perfect for all ages.

3. Lost River Cave - We had a wonderful tour guide that took us on a walk down to the cave and we did an underground boat ride. We also got to release butterflies at their butterfly habitat. They have hiking trails and an outdoor classroom.

4. Bowling Green Hot Rods -  They are a minor league team with a great ballpark. We had a nice night of beer and baseball. The ballpark has a playground and merry-go-round for the kids.

5. Chaney's Dairy Barn - We went on a tour of the dairy farm with Mr. and Mrs. Chaney, who are absolute sweethearts. We got to see and pet baby calves, go on a wagon ride and see the milking operation. They have sandwiches, salads and ice cream at their restaurant, a perfect lunch spot.

6. The Kentucky Museum - This is a really interesting little museum right on the campus of Western Kentucky University. They have a civil war exhibit, quilt exhibit and The Instruments of American Excellence Exhibit. Plus, everyone got to try on their favorite old timey outfits and take pictures.

7. Boyce General Store - We went to this rustic store that has operated in the same spot since 1869 for a catfish dinner and pickin' on the patio. Brie, the Pie Queen, makes the best desserts I have ever had (beside my mother's).

8. Beech Bend Park - There is also a perfect smaller amusement park. They have a waterpark with four brand new slides, a wooden roller coaster and lots of rides for the litte ones. Plus, go-karts, an arcade and mini golf. They are only open for a few more weekends this summer, my family and I will definitely be going next summer.

9. Corsair Distillery and White Squirrel Brewery - Corsair Distillery crafts small batches of spirits and whiskey. They have tours every day. White Squirrel Brewery is Bowling Green's first craft brewery. They serve delicious food and beer.

10. Mariah's and Lost River Pizza Company - These are both great places to get a bite to eat. We ate at both and they were very yummy!

Bonus: We stayed at Fairfield Inn and Suites, and had Mary Jane's Chocolates, they have their own store you can visit. You can also visit Reid's Winery, and a thank you for the great music goes to The Pennyrilers and Leah Grams Johnson.
