Gallrein Farms, Your Fall Family Fun Destination

They have much to offer on the weekends and during the week!

By Tammy Gnagy-Publisher, Macaroni Kid Louisville East October 22, 2016

The Macaroni Kid Louisville East kiddos love fall, so much so that we look for fun farm adventures during the week too since my youngest is still home during the day. We decided to check out Gallrein Farms on a weekday to see what they have to offer at a time when they don't have all their big weekend activities going on. They still had plenty of fun things to see and do.

When we arrived they have you park back past the main pond and walk from there. My daughter wanted to immediately see the fish and feed them. Bring quarters, there are machines where you can buy food to feed the fish and the animals stationed around the pond and petting zoo. There are so many huge catfish in the pond, and they all come up wanting food as soon as you throw it in. My kids have always loved the fish. Right beside the pond is the entrance to the corn maze.

After feeding the fish we went to the petting zoo to see the rest of the animals. It is no cost, unless you buy food for the animals from the machines. They have goats, sheep, camels, donkeys, bunnies, a pig and even kangaroos! The camels are so friendly (and hungry), they are sure to be hanging out where you can see and pet them.

During the fall they have a huge hay mountain to climb and hay pit to play in. After we played there we went into the cafe for a snack and had to get there wonderful donuts. They have a pretty big lunch menu with a cute indoor area to eat or you can eat outside too.

They have their hayrides going during the week as well. They have so many field trips during the week that they don't start their public hayrides until 1:00 pm and they are then every hour until 5:00 pm. Hayrides to the pumpkin patch are $2 per person and pumpkins are 45 cents per pound. They hayride was long and well worth the price, the pumpkin patches were still full of all kinds of pumpkins. If you don't want to do the hayride they also had many many pumpkins to choose from in their store, along with corn, tomatoes and lots of other produce.
