Painting is fun anytime at Whet Your Palette

October 25, 2015
A couple months ago I went to Whet Your Palette for a moms night out. We picked a painting and an instructor walked us through how to paint it. It was a lot of fun. When I came home with my painting my 7 year old son loved it and immediately wanted to go and paint too. I went on their website and discovered that they have a ton of options for kids to come in and paint whatever they like!
They have drop-in hours all week long, Monday & Wednesday from 10am-7pm, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 10am-10pm and Sunday from 12pm-7pm. There is no need to make reservations, you can come in anytime and paint, it starts at $10 for all ages. They also have Happier Hours from 6-8 Thursdays, big canvases are BOGO and Happiest Hour from 6-8pm on Saturdays, all drop-ins are half off!
My son and I went in on a quiet Saturday morning, which was great, there was only one other kiddo painting so we had the place almost to ourselves. As soon as you walk in the staff check you in and let you pick from many different examples they have or you can paint your own design. There are about 6 different canvas sizes you can choose from. I choose a rooster design and my son picked out a winter scene. They were printed on small cards we could take with us to use as reference while we paint. It was very hard to decide, we already have a few picked out for the next time we go!

Once we picked out our paintings and what size of canvas we wanted we went into a big room with all the supplies we would need to do our painting.

On the back of each card there was a list of which color of paints and how much of each one we would need. We each got a cardboard palette and filled them with paints, picked out our brushes, put our aprons on, got some cups of water and paper towels and we were ready to go.

The person helping us gave us the option to do our whole painting by ourselves or with her help. I loved that. I needed help for sure! She used some chalk to draw the horizon and house on my son's painting and drew the rooster on mine. She was so kind and patient with my son, we could not have done our paintings without her! She was very complimentary to my son and really encouraged him to do his own thing. She encouraged me with my poor rooster as well. She was around the entire time to answer any questions we had. My son's painting needed to dry a couple of times before moving onto the next step and they had a blower to speed up the process so my son did not get too antsy waiting to paint more.

We had a great time, it was very relaxing for both of us. It was perfect for a mommy/son date. We were there for almost 2 hours.
