E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park is a wonderful gem right in the heart of our area. It offers two playgrounds, the bigger one to the left of the main entrance and a second, smaller one next to the dog park. It offers much more than just playgrounds though. There are 3 picnic areas with grills. You can Click HERE for information on renting the shelters. The playgrounds are still closed but there is still lots to do here!

There are three trails, a fitness trail, hiking trail and a trail to a vernal pond. Information from the website: "The 1-mile fitness trail is a crushed limestone, level grade trail with 10 exercise stations. The 1.25- mile Goose Creek nature trail meanders through open meadow habitat to a semi-wooded area along Goose Creek. The loop trail is an easy grade trail. This trail is only open to hikers. Bicycles are not allowed on the trail. There is an additional trail near Shelter 3 which leads to the park’s vernal pond. Please visit the Recreation Office for an informational guide to the vernal pond. All trails are open year-round. Please stay on main trails to reduce erosion problems in the park".
There is a huge BMX track, archery, soccer fields, tennis courts, a community garden, dog park, orienteering and much more. Click HERE for the entire list of things to do. There is an outdoor pool with a new splash pad area. You can have birthday parties at the pool and they offer season passes. Get pool information and prices HERE. The pool is currently closed with no date listed yet for opening this year.
Another part of the park my kids have enjoyed is the airfield. On the other side of the park is the Bill Fluke Airfield. You can go here anytime for free and watch people flying their model airplanes. Click HERE for information about the River City Radio Controllers. There is a special air show every year, the Wings For Kids Air Show, which benefits Norton Children's Hospital.
