20 years at Heartland Music Together in Louisville

Louisville business milestone reached as HEARTLAND MUSIC TOGETHER celebrates 20 YEARS!

January 4, 2024

Early childhood music education expert and teacher Katie Shea O’Dea has announced that Heartland Music Together in Louisville has reached 20 YEARS!

Heartland Music Together Director Katie Shea O’Dea said, “We are so proud that Heartland Music Together has reached 20 YEARS. We are thrilled to be able to share this achievement with our center’s families, and with our larger local community as a whole.” Heartland Music Together first opened its doors in 2004, and continues to delight families in the Louisville area at 4 locations. We even kept classes going online, and outdoors through the worst of the pandemic!

“Playing with and making music in our rich environment brings out and nurtures children’s inborn capabilities to respond to and make music, even as babies. The program helps develop bonds between parents, siblings, caregivers, and other members of the extended family. Plus, because music-learning supports all learning, Music Together also fosters children’s growth in other key developmental areas, including the cognitive, language, physical, and socio-emotional domains. It is incredible to be a part of this in our community,” Katie Shea O’Dea continued.

Music Together is an internationally recognized early childhood music and movement program for children birth through grade two. The Music Together curriculum was coauthored in 1987 by Kenneth K. Guilmartin and Rowan University Professor Emeritus of Music Education Dr. Lili M. Levinowitz, and offers programs for families, schools, at-risk populations, and children with special needs in more than 3,000 communities in over 40 countries. The company is passionately committed to bringing children and their caregivers closer through shared music- making and helping people discover the joy and educational value of early music experiences.

“At Heartland Music Together, we have been making music with families in our community for 20 years. We have partnered with Down Syndrome of Louisville, FEAT, Churchill Down Museum, and VIPS to name a few. Founded by Miriam Klein in 2004, and baton passed to Katie Shea O’Dea in 2018, we believe every child can sing when given nurturing musical support from an early age. We are dedicated to helping children (and their grownups!) develop their musical abilities while sharing the joy of music making together. We share a passion for bringing music to our community in a way that's joyful and empowering for everybody. Our vision: a world where everyone can sing - and every voice is valued!
